Vote on the new art piece overlooking 10th Avenue on 30th Street

The public comment period is currently open on what the High Line Plinth will be in 2029 and 2030, which is that massive art piece overlooking 10th Avenue on 30th Street. It is currently a buddha (previously it was a pigeon and predator drone), and next, it will one of the 62 proposals on this page (you can also scroll on IG through some but not all of the proposals here).

There is quite the selection on here, including what I’ll refer to as a gingerbread bear, a pregnant mother earth, a kind of terrifying Scream-like bust, a slouching lamp-post, and the divided face you see here. We would never try to sway anyone’s voting around here, but we will try to incept, and so we’ll say only that nothing is more beautiful and a little bit terrifying than the city at night and the duality of man. And if we’re not going for beautiful and a little bit terrifying, what are we really doing here?

You can also just leave a comment below and we’ll make sure it gets to the right people at the High Line. This fall, the High Line will select, based in part on the public comments, a shortlist. Then the shortlisted artists will present “maquettes” (little versions) in a public exhibition. We’ll of course tell you when that public exhibition is happening!
