“I Shot Andy Warhol” (as restored in high-def) is now playing at IFC
The founding father of pop art is part of the fabric of this neighborhood (and of course on the Mount Rushmore of art right above Empire Diner: www.hgcontemporary.com/news/kobra-paints-mural-for-hg-contemporary)—and so it’s only natural that we tell you about the fancy 4K restoration of “I Shot Andy Warhol” playing at IFC Theater at least through July.
Chronicling a radical named Valerie Solanas that tried to assassinate Andy Warhol in the 1960s—and in fact shot him three times—the film made waves 30 years ago when it debuted at Cannes for platforming some let’s say alternative views. Solanas believed that Y chromosomes made a certain half of the human species fundamentally inferior, and when asked by police why she shot Warhol, replied only that she “had a lot of very involved reasons.” Write-up here: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2026/jun/10/i-shot-andy-warhol-mary-harron-director-interview-valerie-solanas-lili-taylor
If you’ve never been, the IFC Theater in Greenwich Village is something you must absolutely experience in New York. Trust us on this. Tickets here: https://www.ifccenter.com/films/i-shot-andy-warhol/
