Law & Order; La Bergamote, Zebra Building, High Line staircases, lonely dogs, beauty enthusiasts
The usual block updates linked below. New York is, when brought to the logical conclusion of its most terrifying form, the long hallway of an apartment building. Get off the elevator; walk towards your apartment; face an unnerving and almost disturbing quiet given that you know there are people all around (right? right??), yet you’ve never met them and they’re all behind just-closed doors. Get safely in your apartment and behind a just-closed door yourself.
We are ‘New York or nowhere’ types around here. That said if you stand in the middle of Hudson Yards and look up at a skyscraper, it can seem so massive and gleaming that you might forget there are staircases (dingy ones at that) and regular people who have no idea what they’re doing in there. Do you see where I’m going here? Guys, it’s just folk. Folks, it’s just guys.
I want to thank a few people who have left a note on our door or even opened theirs as we’ve walked by these last few weeks. Susan Palmer Marshall and Robert Dobruskin, thanks for organizing the various block associations of the Council of Chelsea Block Associations; Scott Stifler, thanks for the always great work you’re doing at our local newspaper Chelsea Community News; and Eric Marcus, thanks for the must-read weekly neighborhood updates (get on his mailing list, guys, by emailing: eric@ericmarcus.com).
